In December 2024, my wife Cheryl and I embarked on an extraordinary photographic journey through the stunning landscapes of New Zealand and Australia. Our 2.5-week cruise offered an incredible exploration of the region's most breathtaking destinations during the vibrant summer season.
Our adventure began in New Zealand, where we navigated through a spectacular array of ports and natural wonders. We explored the diverse landscapes from Auckland in the north to the dramatic southern fjords, capturing the essence of New Zealand's incredible scenery. Highlights included the picturesque towns of Picton, Christchurch, and Dunedin, each offering unique photographic opportunities.
Milford Sound: A Photographic Paradise
One of the most remarkable stops was Milford Sound, a fjord that truly epitomizes New Zealand's natural beauty. Located in Fiordland National Park, this extraordinary landscape features sheer rock faces rising up to 1,200 meters, with iconic peaks like The Elephant and The Lion creating dramatic silhouettes. The region is renowned for its incredible rainfall, which generates numerous temporary waterfalls cascading down steep rock faces—a photographer's dream.
Crossing the Tasman: Australian Highlights
After exploring New Zealand, we crossed the Tasman Sea, making memorable stops in Melbourne, Burnie in Tasmania, and concluding our journey in Sydney. The long summer days provided extended golden hours perfect for photography, allowing us to capture the diverse landscapes and unique wildlife of Australia.
